Internship Reflection
End of Semester/Internship Reflection
I had the opportunity to complete my internship at Jameson Camp, and I truly enjoyed the experience. I remember feeling both nervous and excited on my first day since it was my first internship. However, I quickly felt comfortable because everyone was welcoming and supportive. I also had the chance to work alongside a classmate I had never spoken to before, and we’ve since become friends.
I was fortunate to have an amazing supervisor, Kelsey, who provided valuable guidance throughout my internship. During our one-on-one meetings, we discussed capstones, assignments, and weekly tasks. I was also able to set personal goals, and she supported me in achieving them. One piece of advice I would give to future interns is to not be afraid to ask for help—whether it’s with a resume, assignments, or projects. Having someone to guide you makes a big difference.
During my internship, I attended events such as Camp Summit and a wedding expo. These were both fun and valuable learning experiences. Camp Summit gave me insight into how a camp operates, including the planning, materials, and effort needed to keep it running successfully. There was also a strong focus on ensuring that campers and counselors have a fun and safe experience. At the wedding expo, we hosted a table where we shared information about the camp and promoted the on-site venue. One key takeaway from these events was the importance of networking, as many organizations and vendors are connected.
Some of my responsibilities included creating flyers and social media posts. This allowed me to explore my creativity more deeply than I had in previous class projects. I worked to design content that would capture attention and engage audiences. I also had the opportunity to write a program description for grant writing. Using examples provided by my supervisor, I combined different elements to create my own version. This experience gave me valuable skills that will benefit me in future employment.
One of my major projects was organizing a third-party fundraiser. Monica and I partnered with Urban Air Adventure Park to host the event. At first, I was nervous about reaching out to organizations, but the experience turned out to be very positive. The staff we worked with were helpful and supportive throughout the process.
From this experience, I learned the importance of planning ahead. I would advise future interns not to wait until the last minute to organize a fundraiser, as it can take time to receive responses and coordinate details. It’s also important to have a backup plan in case things do not go as expected. On the day of the event, clear communication with the venue such as asking about setup or guest instructions is essential.
Overall, my internship at Jameson Camp pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me grow both personally and professionally. The staff created a welcoming environment, and I am grateful for the experience.
